Accessibility Modifications to Your Home
Westchester Residential Opportunities, Inc. (WRO) administers two programs that fund efforts to make houses and apartments of low- to moderate-income individuals who are elderly, frail or disabled significantly more accessible. The focus for both programs is to reduce housing barriers that lead to nursing home placement and to promote independent living for individuals.
WRO works with tenants, landlords and homeowners, to approve proposed work and then contracts with local firms to make accessibility modifications to the home, such as widening doorways; lowering kitchen cabinets; bathroom modifications; installing ramps; stair lifts and much more – usually at no cost to the tenant, landlord or homeowner.
Each program has income and other eligibility requirements. Funding is limited, and meeting the eligibility requirements is no assurance that your project will be approved.
To request more information or a pre-application for these programs, call our Accessibility Manager Nneka Reed at 914-428-4507 ext. 315 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Funding: The two programs WRO administers are the Funding for Accessibility Modifications Program, which is funded by a grant from Enterprise Community Partners, and New York State’s Access to Home, which is funded by a grant from the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal.
